Reasons for Color of Minerals

April 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
$5

Color is a predominate and easily observed feature of minerals. Most minerals can occur with a wide variety of colors. The color of a specific sample may be due to a variety of factors, such as chemical composition, arrangement of elements within the atomic framework, substitution of other chemical elements, and even defects in the atomic structure. Examples of all of these will be shown and explained.

The Lecturer:

Dr. Terry Panhorst PhD, PG. (University of Nevada), Retired Professor of Geology and Geological Engineering at the University of Mississippi. Dr. Panhorst is very involved at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology in Boise, assisting with outreach activities and special events. He also leads upper level geology field tours and is a frequent lecturer for both the museum and outside organizations.
