Dig into Geodes

July 17, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us at the museum for a fun morning of geode-cracking, a short and easy geo-hike on the nearby hillside, and a 30-minute tour of the museum. Geode-cracking is scheduled so that you can fit in a geo-hike and/or a museum tour. Please arrive at geode-cracking at your assigned time. Geode-cracking takes place outside under shade canopies on grass of the historic Women’s Prison Courtyard.

A 30 minute hillside geology hike is scheduled for 11am and a 30 minute museum tour is scheduled for 12 Noon. Hopefully you will be able to fit in at least one of these other activities, after or before you’ve cracked your geode.

All adults are required to pre-register and pay the entry fee. Each child must be preregistered and they are free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

If you have never cracked open a geode with a giant pipe-cutter, you are in for an exciting moment. What Mother Nature has created is truly amazing and inspiring. The cracking crew is led by Master Geode-cracker Truman Keith.

Pre-registration is required.  Click here for tickets
