Shoofly Oolites-Landscape of Mars

Join Steven Sawyer for a popular field trip to the Shoofly Oolites, one of the largest outcrops of Oolites in North America—located 70 miles from Boise near Grand View. We will meet near the McDonald’s, 6574 S Federal Way (Albertsons Shopping Center) near the intersection of I-84 and Hwy 21 at 9:45am for a 10am departure. Home early afternoon. Critical Minerals and Rare Earth Elements

Dr. Terry Panhorst will help you better understand the terms “critical minerals” and “rare earth elements”. These terms are used frequently in the news media these days, but many are uncertain as to the precise meaning of the terms. Join us at 1pm at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd, Boise.  This is a two-hour lecture. Gold Panning for All Ages

Join in us in panning for gold! The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG) 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd. will set up this event in the courtyard of the Women’s Ward at the Old Pen. This Panning experience is provided by the outstanding Nampa Gold Prospectors. $5 for Adult nonmembers of the IMMG, $5 Kids, Museum Members and their kids FREE. Everyone must register even if you don’t pan for gold. Every child takes home a spec of gold.

Women in Mining and Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) will be set up with cool stuff for kids! Plus, kids get a free mineral inside the Museum. Dig into Geodes

Join us for a fabulous time cracking geodes at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG), 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd. Boise 83712. Be amazed at the surprise inside.

Museum Tour and Discussion

Participants are limited to 15 for this up-close and personal tour of the beautiful and small Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology. Tour begins at 11:30 AM. You will see Idaho rocks and minerals, a world-class meteorite exhibit, an authentic mining camp, Buzz Saw shark exhibit, Blacklight display, plica of Idaho’s own dinosaur-the Oryctodromeus, plus much more. You’ll have an opportunity to shop in our extraordinary Gift Shop with prices starting at 50 cents.  The tour will be led by Museum board member Mark Whitaker.  Pre-registration is required:

Willow Creek Jasper Mine Field Trip

This Museum field trip meets at Little Gulch Parking area by 7:45 AM for an 8 AM departure to a privately owned Jasper Mine in your own backyard. If you love adventure, a rough road, and discovering jasper in thunder eggs, this trip is for you. The trip is limited to 25. Members of the IMMG receive free admission. Non-member fee is $20 plus the Eventbrite fee. Children are free with a minimum age of 7 years. Sponsored by Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG) 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd. Boise.
