Our History
The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG) was founded as a non-profit in 1989 and opened in the Trusty Dorm at the Old Idaho State Penitentiary in 1994. Since then, we have shared Idaho mining stories and given visitors a peek into the fascinating study of earth sciences with an emphasis on Idaho geology. The museum includes a historic mining camp, lode and placer mining equipment, a microscope station, rocks and minerals from Idaho, fluorescent minerals, meteorites, fossils, and a seismograph!
