DESCRIPTION:This Museum field will take you to a privately owned Jasper Mine in your own backyard. If you love adventure\, a rough road\, and discovering jasper in thunder eggs\, this trip is for you. The trip is limited to 25. Members of the IMMG receive free admission. Non-member fee is $20 plus the Eventbrite fee. Children are free with a minimum age of 7 years. The field trip departs at 8am so plan to arrive at Little Gulch parking lot by 7:45am. SUMMARY:Geology Hike to Eagle Rock
DESCRIPTION:Eliza Schulz will meet hikers at 7:45am within steps of the IMMG in the Old Pen dirt parking lot near the Ridge to Rivers trail sign. She will lead you up the hillside at a relaxed pace. At various points she will talk about the features of the hillside\, the type of rocks\, how the hills were formed\, what produced the Treasure Valley below and more. The geo-hike is appropriate for children and adults who can walk/hike for up to 2 hours. Because of summer heat\, the hike will end by 10:00am. Please read more detail in the link. DESCRIPTION:Let’s Dig into Geodes and see what’s inside! \nJoin us at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG)\, next to the Old Pen\, for a fun time geode-cracking\, an easy 40-minute geology-hike on the nearby hillside and a Museum Visitation. Geode-cracking takes place from 10am-1pm outside under shade canopies on the grass of the historic Women’s Ward. Hikes are scheduled for 11am and again at Noon. \nAdmission: \nAdult Non-members of the IMMG—$10 \nChildren —$5 \nEvery registered child receives one small geode at no cost \nAdult IMMG Members & their children—Free admission \nThis fun event is also a fundraiser for the IMMG. \nAll adults (members too) who wish to crack a geode\, and children who would like a second geode\, will need to pay the recommended donation at the site.
