DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Terry Panhorst for a tour of some spectacular scenery and geology at the southern end of Boise National Forest. You’ll see granite\, basalt\, and rhyolite\, plus learn interesting history of the dam construction and its builders. Meetup is at 8:45 AM in the Albertson’s Shopping Center parking lot near McDonald’s Restaurant\, 6574 S Federal Way for a 9 AM departure. Trip is limited to 8 vehicles\, so we’ll be carpooling. DESCRIPTION:This geologic field trip will be to a new area of Bruneau Petrified Wood. You can collect petrified wood and other fossils without any digging! We’ll be meeting to carpool from the Albertsons Parking Lot (near McDonalds but not at McDonalds) at 6574 S Federal Way and Hwy 21 at 8:15 AM\, departing at 8:30 AM. We will spend ~2 hours exploring a new area and picking up petrified wood\, having lunch and then return to One-Stop and finally to the meetup location by about 2:30 PM. SUMMARY:Western Snake River Plain: FIELD TRIP
DESCRIPTION:This field trip is guided by Dr. Terry S Maley PhD. We will learn about the Western Snake River Plain by visiting 4 field sites in the Boise foothills near Table Rock. The geology we see at these sites is representative of the geology of the western Snake River Plain. We will meet in the Old Pen gravel lot\, 2445 Old Penitentiary Rd. Boise\, near the trailhead sign at 7:45am for an 8am departure. This site will also serve as the first stop. We will not be hiking up the trail\, just meeting there for the first stage. Throughout the morning there will be minimal walking—no more than a few hundred yards. Trip ends by 11am. Members of Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology- Free\, Nonmembers of the Museum-$20.
