SUMMARY:Geology Hike to Eagle Rock
DESCRIPTION:Eliza Schulz will meet hikers at 7:45am within steps of the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG)\, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd\, in the Old Pen dirt parking lot near the Ridge to Rivers trail sign. She will lead you up the hillside to Eagle Rock at a relaxed pace. At various points she will talk about the features of the hillside\, the type of rocks\, how the hills were formed\, what produced the Treasure Valley below and more. The geo-hike is appropriate for children and adults who can walk/hike for up to 2 hours. Because of summer heat\, the hike will end by 10:00am. DESCRIPTION:This lecture\, presented by Dr. Terry S Maley\, covers the origin and evolution of the Snake River Plain with emphasis on tectonic and volcanic events. The Snake River Plain has long been recognized as an enigmatic feature with global geologic significance. It is also noted as one of the most important volcanic provinces on Earth. SUMMARY:Western Snake River Plain: FIELD TRIP
DESCRIPTION:This field trip is guided by Dr. Terry S Maley PhD. We will learn about the Western Snake River Plain by visiting 4 field sites in the Boise foothills near Table Rock. The geology we see at these sites is representative of the geology of the western Snake River Plain. We will meet in the Old Pen gravel lot\, 2445 Old Penitentiary Rd. Boise\, near the trailhead sign at 7:45am for an 8am departure. This site will also serve as the first stop. We will not be hiking up the trail\, just meeting there for the first stage. Throughout the morning there will be minimal walking—no more than a few hundred yards. Trip ends by 11am. Members of Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology- Free\, Nonmembers of the Museum-$20.
