July Field Trip – Gold Panning
July 18 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
We will travel to Don Adair’s claim on Grimes Creek for a fruitful day of gold panning; Don’s claim always produces some color, either from the stream or the gravel banks.
Meet at the Museum at 7:30 AM for registration with a departure to Idaho City at 8:00 AM. Or, you can meet us at the Visitor Center in Idaho City (at the big hydraulic water cannon) at 9:00 AM. This will be a rest stop and regrouping location. We’ll leave for the claim at about 9:30 AM. No pre registration needed, no vehicular limitations, minimal walking.
Wear clothes that can get wet and dirty. Rubber boots or wading shoes are a good idea if you want to pan in the stream. Bring lunch and snacks. There is an outhouse on site.
You can pan as long as you like and leave when your poke is full.
