The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology (IMMG) was founded as a non-profit in 1989 and opened in the Trusty Dorm at the Old Idaho State Penitentiary in 1994. Since then we have shared Idaho mining stories and given countless visitors a peek into the fascinating study of earth sciences with an emphasis in Idaho geology. The 2300 sq.ft. museum includes a historic mining camp, lode and placer mining equipment, a historic mining elevator, a hand-held microscope station, rocks and minerals from Idaho, fluorescent mineral display, meteorites, fossil display, and seismograph!
