Steps to Identifying Mineral Hardness--Kids
Learn to use common household items to identify hardness of minerals. Thirty minute workshops held each hour beginning at 1 PM, last one at 4 PM; Free. Bring a rock & mineral identification book, if you have one. Sunday, MAY 1
Learn to Identify Gold--Adultss
Adults will learn how to identify gold, where to go to find it, & they will have time to practice panning. One hour workshop, 2:00 PM. Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd; No sign-up necessary. Free for IMMG members; non-members $2.00. Equipment & supplies available for purchase. Sunday, May 22      
International Museum Day--Families
Takes place at The Old Penitentiary on Old Penitentiary Rd; Events and activities sponsored many Boise museums, Noon – 5 pm, Free admission.  IMMG sponsoring Gem Dig activity.  Children take home any gems they can pick out of sand using tweezers in 3 minutes. List of gems available.  (Pre-schoolers can use their fingers.)

Mineral Identification Workshop—Adults and Youth
6:30-8:30 PM, Pierce Park School-library, 5015 N. Pierce Park Lane, Boise, Cost $15 non-members, $10 members; Bring streak plate, jackknife, magnifying glass, penny, glass chip, file, and mineral book, or buy supplies on site at 20% off—some loaners available. Students receive mineral box with 15 specimens. Sponsored by Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology. Class limited to 15. Call Lois to pre-register at 713-2061.

Monday, June 20 – Thursday, June 23  
Adventures in Geology-- Kids, Grades 3-6
Hands-on activities to learn about the geology of the hillside above the museum. Pre-registration and pre-payment required. 9:00 –2 pm. Receive your own loupe and Mineral & Rock Identification book. Tuesday, July 12
Rocks, Minerals and Mining--Kids
The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd, will host a geology camp from 9:00 AM-12 noon for children ages six and up.  Participants will engage in hands-on activities that celebrate Idaho's history: Gold Panning, Hillside geology hike, Mining artifacts, and more; Mineral specimens given to each child; $10 per child. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes. Dress for the weather. For advance registration call Margaret at 740-0937.

**Bring your lunch & a water bottle. Wear sensible hiking shoes, sun screen, bug spray, and a hat. Only 20 spaces per camp.**
