2010 IMMG Field Trip Schedule

Each year the IMMG conducts field trips to geologic and mining points of interest. Led by university professors, local geologists and knowledgeable enthusiasts, these wildly popular field trips are a unique opportunity to learn more about the history of our State and adjoining regions. And, they are great family fun!
The following field trips are planned for the 2009 season. Within 3 weeks of the field trip date, we will post the specific date and details for each trip. The field trip caravans will be limited to 25 vehicles, so please prepare to add people to your car or to hop in a car with others. (No Reservations Please.) Wear clothing suitable for hiking, and bring food, water, and sun protection. Cost: $10 for adult members, $15 for adult non-members, $5 for youths.

2010 Field Trips:
Sept. 11—Geology and Mineralization of the Atlanta Gold Deposit . The trip is led by local geologist Ed Fields. Please arrive at the museum located at 2455 Old Penitentiary Road no later than 7:45 AM for an 8:00 AM departure. Higher clearance or AWD vehicles are recommended. Bring lunch and water. Dress for the weather. Cost is $10 for members, $15 for non-members, and $5 for kids. No reservations are needed. For more information, visit www.idahomuseum.org or call 887-6888.
Oct. 2—Volcanoes of the Snake River Plain (Dr. Craig White, BSU Emeritus Prof.)
Completed 2010 Field Trips:
April 17-The Geology of the Boise and Payette River Valleys. The trip was led by Dr. Spencer Wood, BSU Geosciences Professor Emeritus.
May 8—The Southern Shores of Ancient Lake Idaho (The trip was led by Dr. Walt Snyder, BSU Geosciences Prof.)
June 12 – Volcanoes and Lava Flows along the south Fork of the Boise River. (The trip was led by Don Adair)
July 10—Geology and Mineral Deposits of the North Boise Basin Porphyry Belt; included a CUMO Project overview (The trip was led by Don Adair and Nick Garshelis).
Aug. 21, 22—A Visit to the Thunder Mountain Mining District This trip was led by Robin “Sandy” McRae, grandson of the original locator of the mining claims in the Thunder Mountain Mining District.
